7.1.0 — Polishing Tables

This release introduces a redesigned Followers table that’s easier to navigate and customize—hide columns, change how many entries you see, or remove followers directly. Migrations are now simpler: just paste in a WebFinger ID or profile URL, and the plugin takes care of the rest. We’ve also fixed an issue where old, unfederated posts could be mistakenly re-sent—those will now stay quiet unless they’re recent. Plus, lots of behind-the-scenes improvements for a smoother experience.

We get this stuff about declining birth rates regularly. Australia and the developed world have all got declining birth rates driven by educating women, high cost of living, difficulty in buying a home etc. We are, and have been for decades, dependent on migration to expand our population so that economic growth occurs.

A bit weird that the declining birth rate is a threat to continuous growth. Does that mean that capitalism which has demanded 2 incomes to fund a home, that stresses employees to the max has created the seeds of its own destruction? Maybe we need a different socioeconomic model.

#voters need to not just indicate their preferences in Gallup and Pew surveys but actually show up to vote and do so for the good candidates. Else it is all performative.

The Nation · Sanctioning Francesca AlbaneseMarco Rubio tramples on law, justice, and truth.

Developed countries (DCs) & emerging/developing countries' (EDCs) workforces are exhibiting very different dynamics:

In DCs (broadly defined) generally we see an aging population & a slowly contracting workforce (driven by low birth rates);

In EDCs we see a developing crisis of absence of work for a growing working age population (growth of population outrunning economic growth).

But the politics of migration make useful linking these trends difficult.

Difficult to know what too make of the UK/France one-in-one-out deal on migrants.

It continues to present the idea that (some) migrants are cynically trying to enter the country without good reason; while others have a 'legitimate' case.

There is a sort of logic to retuning a failed migrant & (essentially) swapping them for a legitimate migrant who has not tried to cross the channel, but this distinguishing between deserving & undeserving migrants seems all too Victorian.

In an era of draconian restrictions on migration, this story attempts to explore several challenging questions - will the climate migrants be allowed to settle down in relatively safer places? How many will be allowed to do so? Who will be allowed? Under what conditions? How will the migrants cope with the massive transition? Will they take the good and bad aspects of their current lives to the new land?
