Emeritus Prof Christopher May<p>Arguing that <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/OfGem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OfGem</span></a> has been captured by the <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/energy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>energy</span></a> industry &amp; merely parrots their arguments for an increase in allowable profits, Citizens Advice assets that: 'We do not believe these proposals are in the interest of consumers'!</p><p>Like <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/OfWat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OfWat</span></a> it is becoming obvious that OfGem has become the creature of the firms it 'regulates'!</p><p>For regulatory <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/capitalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>capitalism</span></a> to work (especially as regarded oligopolistic sectors) the regulator has to be independent of the industry &amp; trusted by consumers...</p>
Emeritus Prof Christopher May<p>Not sure what to make of this:</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/OfGem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OfGem</span></a> is considering 'zonal pricing' which would seen <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/energy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>energy</span></a> prices differing on the basis of proximity (or otherwise to generation) - essentially abandoning universal service provision for energy &amp; introducing a price incentive to live near(er) locations were power is produced...</p><p>This might also include pricing by time-period (the old night-storage heater model) 'encouraging' people to recharge tech or run non-time-sensitive energy-hungry processes over-night.</p>
